What does marketing mean?

Many of us think that marketing is same as advertising. Others think marketing is the same as personal selling. Still few people believe that marketing has something to do with marketing products available in stores and maintaining inventories of products for future sales.  Actually to be more specific marketing includes all of these activities as a whole and more.

Marketing is the activity, set of institutions and processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients and society at large.
